Keeping UC SHIP? No action is needed—you’ll be automatically enrolled and billed for the quarterly premium.

Fall 2025 UC SHIP waiver deadline

All new, incoming, and continuing students are automatically enrolled in—and charged for—UC SHIP unless they submit an online waiver.

If you’ve already submitted a waiver or plan to keep UC SHIP, you can disregard this message.

The Fall UC SHIP waiver deadline is September 19, 2025. Note: If approved, you won’t need to submit another waiver until Fall 2026.

UC Health Insurance Grant

Students who apply for financial aid and meet all deadlines may be eligible for the UC Health Insurance Grant, which helps cover the cost of UC SHIP premiums. If you waive UC SHIP, you will not be eligible for this grant.

Award amounts vary based on financial need and can be viewed in your MyUCSC portal.

Waiving UC SHIP for another insurance plan

Waiving UC SHIP is an annual process. If you waived coverage last year, you must submit a new waiver this year to confirm your plan still meets UC’s coverage requirements.

To waive UC SHIP, submit the online waiver by the fall deadline.

Gather your documents: You’ll need a picture of the front and back of your insurance card and your Summary of Benefits.
